Catalog Description: Conversational Mandarin with basic grammar and functional vocabulary of the Chinese language. Includes aspects of Chinese culture.
Course Goals: Students are expected to acquire a basic understanding of the Chinese culture and rudimentary knowledge and skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing Chinese after this class.
Course Objectives:

  • Review Pinyin
  • Review Lessons 1 through 4:
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Greetings;
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Family;
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Dates and Time;
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Hobbies
  • Learn Lessons 5 through 8:
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Visiting Friends;
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Making Appointments;
    • Conversation and Chinese characters: Studying Chinese
  • Conversation and Chinese characters: School Life
  • Learn Chinese culture, such as history, economic development, customs, festivals, and tales
