Word Perfect's menu structure allows you to open a menu by clicking on it and choosing an option. The second line is the tool bar. Click on a tool to start the option immediately. The third line is the power bar which contains frequently selected items.
B. Creating and accessing files
As text is entered it can be corrected by moving to the text and deleting it with the DEL key. Pressing INSERT toggles back and forth from Insert mode to Type over mode.

Help can be accessed from the menu by clicking Help / How Do I / Topic. In addition, there is a search and glossary available on the Help menu. For automated Help in a particular procedure, select the Coaches. The Tutorial is also available to facilitate learning Word Perfect.
In addition to using the menu, commands can be entered by pressing the function keys and another key, and example would be CTRL+O to open a file list. These shortcut keys are listed on the pull down menus to the right of the menu selection.
A. Setting Margins, tabs, and indents

Enhancements can be added to improve text. Simply select the text by dragging through or double-clicking it and select Bolding, Italics, or a font size and style from the power bar. The same can be done from the menu by selecting Format / Font. Bullets can be added by positioning the cursor where you want the bullet and selecting Insert / Bullet / Type of bullet.
C. Moving and copying blocks of text
Text can be copied or moved from one part of the document to another. Simply mark the text by dragging through it and click on the cut or copy icons on the icon bar, then move to the place for the text and click paste. These operations can also be done from the menu under Edit, or with the shortcut keys, CTRL-X, CTRL-C, and CTRL-V.
Text can be located in a document and optionally replaced with other text. To do this select
Edit / Find or Replace / Enter the text to find / Enter the text to put in it's place. Notice the options to replace one or all copies.
E. Inserting headers, footers, and watermarks
To insert a header or footer - Format / Header/Footer / Select A or B / Create / Enter text
Notice the options to edit or discontinue the header/footer.
To insert a Watermark - Format / Watermark / A or B / Create / Enter text or figures
F. Speller, Thesaurus, and Grammar check
Before you run any of these programs, be sure to save your file.
To run the spell check - Click on the speller icon or select Tools / Speller / Start
To run the Thesaurus - Position the cursor on the word to be changed, Click on the Thesaurus icon or click Tools / Thesaurus
To run the Grammar check - Click on the Grammatik icon or click Tools / Grammatik
Grammatik has three options Check, Options, Style. As errors are detected, you select the appropriate response. Grammatik can be customized by selecting Options / Writing Styles
After a document has been corrected, it can be printed by selecting the print icon, CTRL- P, or File / Print. Be sure to select the correct printer with File / Print / Select.
The power bar contains an option called "Quick Format". This option lets you quickly copy the formatting attributes of the text at the insertion point to another section of text. To use it, move the insertion point to the text you want to copy, click Format, Quick Format, mark the text to change, and click Quick Format again to turn off the feature.

Directories
File / Open / File Options / Create Directory / Enter the name of the new directory, or the complete path to change the default location. Note the options to remove and rename directories.
Files
File / Open or Save As (or Insert / File) / File Options - Select Copy, Move, Rename, Delete, or file attributes such as Read-Only. Specify the option and then the filename(s) or other parameters.
Multiple Files
Word Perfect allows you to have up to 9 documents open at one time, memory permitting. Normally, you will see only the current document. To switch to another open document, click Window, then the name of the document. To see both documents at one time, click Window / Tile / Vertical or Horizontal. Text can be copied or moved from one document to another.
B. Customizing the tool and power bars
Word Perfect can be customized to display its features in many ways. Two of the features that you will want to change are the tool bar and power bar. Since the tool bar cannot be restored to its original definition, it is suggested that it be copied first.

Tool bar - Either right click it or choose Edit / Preferences / Tool bar / Select one of the bars / Options / Select the Appearance and location options. You can also choose to rename, delete, or edit the tool bar. To change the buttons function or location choose Edit, and drag it to a new place or Perform a feature to change its actions. You can also assign macros to buttons.
Power Bar - Edit / Preferences / Power bar / Fonts or check an item in the Items list The Power bar can be restored to its original form by clicking Default.
Both the Power bar and Tool bar can be hidden with View / Power or Tool bar.
