Politics and the Yellowstone Ecosystem
Yellowstone National Park
July 31 - August 5, 2006
Five Western Kentucky University representatives attended the Politics and the Yellowstone Ecosystem conference sponsored by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the American Democracy Project in early August 2006. This exciting, hands-on experience challenged faculty and administrators representing fourteen colleges and universities to explore such topics as the politics of grizzly bears, wolves, bison and winter-use issues as they relate to Yellowstone National Park, the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystems, and private lands surrounding the park. Participants enjoyed on-site lectures throughout Yellowstone National Park, classroom activities and also traveled outside Yellowstone's boundaries to consult the local stakeholders involved in many of the examined political issues. Western Kentucky University participants included:
Dr. Barbara Burch, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Soleiman Kiasatpour, Assistant Professor, Political Science
Dr. Steve Spencer, Professor, Physical Education and Recreation
Dr. Karen Powell, Associate Professor, Biology and Liberal Arts and Sciences Division, BGCC
Ms. Sara McCaslin, Library Skills Coordinator/Instructor, University Experience Program
