Ms. Beasley’s 1st Grade Class

08-09

Welcome! I am very excited and looking forward to working with your child this year!  We are going to learn so many new and exiting things!  With your help in following our classroom policies it will greatly benefit your child’s success this year.

Parent/Teacher Relationship

I strongly feel that a good parent-teacher relationship is necessary for school success.  Our main source of communication will be your child’s planner. It is your child’s responsibility to make sure their planner gets to and from school.  They are also responsible for making sure all assignments are written down from the board to their planner.  School news, upcoming events and homework will be written in your child’s planner.  I will also communicate with you through notes, parent teacher conferences and I will send home Beasley Weekly News each week.  If at any time you need to talk with me please feel free to call the school and leave a message and I will get back with you.  You may also send me a note and we will schedule a conference.

Changes in Transportation

If your child is to go home a different way or with someone different please send a signed and dated note indicating the changes in transportation for your child.  Without a signed note, I will be required to send your child home by his/her usual method of transportation.

Snack

We will have a snack time everyday.  Please provide a healthy nutritious snack each day with your child.

Money

If you send money to school with your child please put money in an envelope.  Please put your child’s name, my name and the purpose of the money on the envelope.

Homework

Each night your child will have homework (I’ll try not to have any for Wednesday or Friday’s) but it is very valuable that your child read every night.  Please check your child’s planner for assignments every night and sign or initial where it ask for parent’s signature, this lets me know that you have seen what your child is supposed to do and that they have taken the responsibility that they hold and brought their planner home.  Homework is to help reinforce what your child is doing in class.  If homework exceeds 20 minutes, please let me know.

Behavior/Discipline

Every student is expected to follow all classroom rule. This will result in a classroom environment that your child will succeed in with confidence.  In your child’s “Take Home” folder there will be a conduct form that I will write each day in.  This lets you know what color your child was on for the day.  Please initial at the end of the week.  If your child pulls a card for any reason they have to write you a note home explaining why they pulled a card.  I will sign this note, the student will sign the note and I ask that you sign the note and send it back.

Rules:

  1. Respect students, teachers and school property.
  2. Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
  3. Raise your hand to speak.
  4. Follow directions from your teacher.

Warning/Consequences

  1. Warning (verbal)
  2. 5 minutes of recess (Yellow stick)
  3. 10 minutes of recess (Orange stick)
  4. Note home (Red stick)
  5. Call parents immediately

Rewards

  1. Recess/Break
  2. Treasure Chest (every Friday as long as they have not pulled a card)
  3. Verbal Praise

Recess

We will go outside for break as long as the weather permits.  Please dress your child according to the weather.  *Just a little note of experience, it is hard for students to run and play outside in flip flops, tennis shoes would be great!  During the winter months I feel that it is important for students to go outside and get some fresh air (it is also been proven to help cut down on the spread of germs).  We will not stay any longer then 3 or 4 minutes, it is just long enough for them to go outside yell and scream and get some energy out that they need to release.  Please remember to send your child to school with their coats during this time of the year.

Book Orders

Each month I will send home a book order form.  If you would like to order, just fill out the form and send a check made out to the book company in an envelope.  For every dollar spent on books, I earn bonus points which are used to purchase books for our classroom.
