Instructions for ATP Advisors

1.  Profile sheets on your new advisees will be placed in your mailbox the day before your scheduled ATP.  Even if there are no students listed for you, you need to be available at the time below just in case there are last-minute walk-ins.

2.  Full-day ATP for Freshmen:  Students meet with the Deans at around 12:30.
You should be at the meeting place around 12:45 to pick up your advisees from there.

(The above time may vary.  You will be provided with a schedule for your specific ATP day that gives the time and the auditorium where the students meet with the Deans.)

3.  Bring your advisees back to the Math floor to meet with them either in your office, in an empty classroom, or in the computer lab.

4.  Advise your students by trying to answer any questions they have and by helping them choose courses for their schedules.  Be sure to check on TopNet for class availability.  Here are the Advising Basics.

5.  Clear your students to register:  (i)  Log-on to TopNet.   (ii)  Go to Advisors & Student Data Inquiry.   (iii) Select a student by entering the Student ID Number or by using the Student Name Search.   (iv)  Select the Term for which the student is registering.   (v)  Go to Update Student Advising Hold Flags.   (vi)  Change Status to Advised and click on Submit Changes.

6.  Have your students register for classes while they are meeting with you.

7.  After your students register, sign their ATP information sheets and list yourself as the students' permanent advisor.

8.  After your students have registered, refer them back to the "ATP Finish Line" on the DUC 2nd Floor Lobby.

Registration Notes:

Freshmen who are interested in teaching mathematics should be enrolled in the SKyTeach courses.  Even students who are not sure can take these courses for elective credit.
First semester freshmen should enroll in  SMED 101:  Inquiry-Based Learning

Entering students with an ACT of 18-20 are now required to take a 3 credit hour course, LTCY 199.  This change is in addition to the Spring 2009 changes that required students with an ACT below 13 to enroll in an enhanced section of DRDG 080C meeting 4 hours per week and students with an ACT 13-17 to enroll in a section of DRDG 080C meeting 3 hours per week.

What is the Academic Transitions Program (ATP)?

The Academic Transitions Program is the next step once a student is admitted to WKU.  ATP is a required orientation for all new WKU students.  Freshmen ATP is a one-day program on the Main Campus of WKU.  Through ATP, students are given the necessary information to successfully begin as a WKU student, including information on housing, financial aid, meal plans, parking and more.  Students also meet with an academic advisor and register for their classes.

An online orientation is available for students transferring 24 or more hours.   For more information, visit http://www.wku.edu/orientation.
