Pre-Reading Activity

Are you ready to begin reading--So You Want to Be President? Before you do, it is important that you predict or anticipate what you think makes a good President. Each member of the group needs to choose one of the two activities to participate. Make sure that you complete one of the activities.

Choice # 1

Directions:

1. The MANAGER should print out the Anticipation Guide. Each student will need a pencil to fill out an anticipation guide for themselves.

2. The READER should read the questions aloud and follow the directions found on the anticipation guide worksheet.

3. After the group has completed the anticipation guide, the REPORTER should report the opinion of the first question - and allow everyone time to discuss why they agree or disagree with the statement.

4. After the group finishes the discussion, the SCRIBE will collect the worksheets that are completed and place them in the group folder.

5. The SCRIBE needs to hand the folder to the MANAGER.

Choice # 2

Directions:

1. The MANAGER should print out the Concept Web. Each student will need a pencil to fill out an concept web for themselves.

2. The READER should read the questions aloud and follow the directions found on the concept web worksheet.

3. After the group has completed the concept web, the REPORTER should report list three (3) POSITIVE characteristics you think the President of the United States of America portrays or should have. Next, list three (3) NEGATIVE characteristics you think the President of the United States should not portray or have.

4. After the group finishes the concept web, the SCRIBE will collect the worksheets that are completed and place them in the group folder.

5. The SCRIBE needs to hand the folder to the MANAGER.
