Task 1

So You Want To Be President?
When you read a book, it is very important that you understand the vocabulary that the book presents in order to clearly understand the message. As you read, So You Want To Be President, you may come across some words that you have never seen before, words that you may have seen but never pronounced, or have heard someone say the word, but did not know how to pronounce it or knew what it meant. This activity is going to give you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with someone of these new words.
*** There are 3 activities to be competed on this task ! ***

ACTIVITY #1 1. The MANAGER needs to print out the StopLight Vocabulary task-sheet for EVERY member of the group. Hand out the task-sheets and pencils to each member. Below are directions for this task--follow the directions and make sure that you complete the entire actvity before you go to Task 2. 2. After everyone completes their task-sheet, each member will take turns sharing one of their green light word sentences. (Try to not repeat words--if there are other sentences you can read--read those. If not, you can use the same word.) 3. Now that you have shared the following green light words--Go to Activity #2. |

ACTIVITY #2 1. The MANAGER needs to print out ONE Vocabulary Words worksheet for the entire group. Hand the task-sheet and a pencil to the SCRIBE. Below are directions for this task--follow the directions and make sure that you complete the entire actvity before you go to Task 2. 2. The MANAGER needs to look up
each word on the online dictionary. (click here). 3. Ther READER should read the definition aloud. The SCRIBE needs to write the definition correctly and neatly. 5. After the SCRIBE writes the definition, the REPORTER needs to re-read your green-light sentence(s) (from Activity #1) and make sure that the green light sentences are correct. If they are in-correct make sure that you correct the sentence. (The MANAGER has the final say if it is correct or incorrect.) 6. Once the entire group finishes Activity #2, it is the REPORTERS job to collect the paper(s) and place them in their groups folder. 7. The REPORTER needs to give the folder to the MANAGER. |

ACTIVITY #3 1. The MANAGER needs to print off Activity #3: Synonyms. (Each individual will need a worksheet.) In this activity you will learn words that are similiar to the vocabulary words. This will help you when trying to remember what the word means. Another word may trigger your thinking.--to help you remember. Your group will need to individually fill out the worksheet provided. 2. The MANAGER will need to click on the video tape to direct the group to the on-line thesaurus. The READER will need to read aloud the possible words that may be used. EACH GROUP MEMBER will need to write down the word of their choice--remember that it needs to fit with the definition. Click here for the online thesaurus. 3. The REPORTER will read the list of words that each individual wrote down. 4.
